Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear focused his remarks on explaining why Donald Trump’s brand of Republicanism doesn’t work — even in red states like his.
Beshear won reelection by five points last year, which he touted to a standing ovation from Kamala Harris, Tim Walz and the DNC crowd. Noting both his electoral prowess and Christian faith, Beshear zeroed in on abortion, praising Kentucky native and women’s rights advocate Hadley Duvall for sharing her story just before he took the stage. (Duvall, who was raped by her stepfather as a child, was featured in a Beshear ad last year.)
And he attacked JD Vance, who’s cited his own ties to Kentucky, for suggesting that society should view a pregnancy or birth that results from rape or incest as “inconvenient.”
“Their policies give rapists more rights than their victims,” Beshear said. “That’s not inconvenient, it’s just plain wrong.”
Instead, Beshear pointed to what he said were Harris’ more uplifting approach to governance, citing the Biden-Harris administration’s support for Kentuckians as they faced recent natural disasters and other challenges.
